AS/A Computer Science: Computer Systems Home

This section does not repeat the content from GCSE but you are also required to know the following in this unit: Relationship between hardware and software; Classifcation of software as systems or applications; Understand the need for, and functions of the operating system, utility programs, libraries and translators; The role of the operating system; Low and high level languages; assemblers, compilers and translators, basic logic gates e.g. AND, OR, NOT and their truth tables and Boolean expressions.

It should be noted that the majority of the content from this unit is a rehash of GCSE knowledge. This content can be found in the GCSE course if you need to revisit it or if you didn't take GCSE Computer Science.
